The properties are situated near Hautefort, a charming town with its medieval streets and imposing chateau (open to visitors) which can be seen for miles around. Half an hour away is Montignac where tickets can be bought to visit the amazing Lascaux caves, or canoes hired to explore the Dordogne. Canoes are also available on our local river the Auvezere.
Montignac is known as the gateway to the Vezere valley, famous for the cave dwellings and geological formations of prehistoric times. A little further south is the fascinating town of Sarlat and the stunning bastide town of Domme. Here you meet the Dordogne river itself, with its beautiful villages and imposing castles. To the north of Hautefort is Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord as well as the enchanting villages of Bordeilles and St-Jean de Cole. The university city of Perigueux lies to the west.
Tennis, horse riding, water skiing, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing are all found within 15 minutes drive and both our houses have good sized swimming pools and large gardens for outdoor games. Bicycles can be hired. The area is excellent for walking with many marked routes and trails through the countryside.
In Hautefort, St Agnan, Chervaix Cubas, Badefols d'Ans and other nearby villages you will find a wide selection of restaurants bars and cafes ideal for relaxing and getting to know the local inhabitants. Baby sitting and childcare can be provided by English speaking qualified personnel, both during the day and at night. To enable you to relax from the start, we can arrange for basic groceries to be delivered for your arrival.
