Which is the best Channel crossing?
This depends on several factors. The cheapest is Speedferries from Dover to Boulogne. Norfolk Line and SeaFrance are also competitively priced though to find out the best deals you may have to speak to them rather than booking online. Brittany Ferries from Poole and Portsmouth are more expensive but you can travel overnight which is quite relaxing.
Again this depends on whether you want to make straight for the area or take in some sights on the way. Driving within the speed limit and with no hold ups in Paris takes 7-8 hours with a couple of short breaks on the way.
Where could I stay on the way?
Paris, of course, and Orleans and Limoges are both interesting cities. If you are coming from Brittany, Blois is well worth a visit. If you just want to sleep overnight the Formula 1 hotels which are usually just off the motorway offer cheap and clean accommodation for about 30 euros for a room sleeping up to 3
Flybe fly from Southampton and Bristol to Bergerac and Limoges. Ryanair fly to Bergerac and Limoges. Limoges is about one hours drive away and Bergerac about two. Bordeaux airport is about 2 and a half hours. If you intend to hire a car it is much better to organize it before you get here. At Bergerac especially they often run out of cars.
All linen is provided except towels in the case of La Seytie.
Where is the nearest supermarket?
The nearest supermarket is in Hautefort. You will find all you need there but for a larger selection there are hypermarkets at Perigueux , Terrasson and Brive.
You will find a selection of information in both houses as to local attractions and entertainments, and we can also recommend local restaurants if required.
